Titans Of The Culture DAPPER DAN & RASHIDA BOLDEN Will Rock The 2019 Hip Hop Film Festival’s Master Cyphers.

DAPPER DAN

Culture. Over. Everything.

The Hip Hop Film Festival’s 4th edition is bursting with the flyest offerings of any festival currently going. With #StoriesFromTheCulture as the focus of this year’s festival, the Hip Hop Film Festival brings a global audience to Harlem’s National Black Theatre for “4 Days of Fresh” August 1st through August 4th.

Harlemite and ICON Dapper Dan throws his hat into the ring by joining the festival as a Master for it’s Master Cypher Series. The Cypher is called “WE STAY FLY : Black Skin On Film” where Dapper Dan and Hollywood’s only Leading makeup and SFX Black department Head, Rashida Bolden, will discuss their extensive experience creating styles and themes for all genres of film…and most importantly, the business and political side of Black Skin on Film. The cypher is interactive as well, allowing for our audience to participate and gain insight and knowledge from the flyest in the industry.

The Hip Hop Film Festival’s Master Cypher WE STAY FLY is happening Saturday August 3rd at 1:00pm at the National Black Theatre in Harlem (2031 Fifth Avenue). Admission is FREE with your festival pass.

About Dapper Dan : With his eponymous store on 125th Street, Dapper Dan pioneered streetwear in the early 1980s, co-opting luxury branding to design original garments with high-end detail. Known for using exquisite leathers, furs, and other fine materials, he first drew powerful New York City hustlers as clientele, who all came due to his strong street reputation as a legendary professional gambler and dandy. He then went on to outfit entertainers and other celebrities, including Eric B. & Rakim, LL Cool J, Salt-N-Pepa, Mike Tyson, Missy Elliott, JAY-Z, Beyonce, Aaliyah, P. Diddy, Floyd Mayweather, and many more. Dapper Dan has been featured on platforms including The New York Times, Elle, Vogue, W, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, CNN, and Netflix. His works have been on display at The Smithsonian, The Museum at FIT, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and The Museum of Modern Art. Dapper Dan’s boutique reopened in 2017 in a major partnership with Gucci. His memoir, “Dapper Dan: Made in Harlem” was released via Random House on Tuesday, July 9th, 2019.

About Rashida Bolden : Rashida Bolden, one of the few women of color heading the makeup departments of major studio motion pictures. She leads this cypher with her special guests and our HHFF filmmakers to address the “behind the scenes” problems of filming ethic skin, and the need for diversity in the employment of makeup & hair artists in the industry. She has served as the Makeup Department Head for over 41 productions including: See You Yesterday, Monsters and Men, The Incredible Jessica James, Goldie, Impossible Monsters, The Sunlit Night, and the upcoming Naked Singularity starring John Boyega
